VIM – Find and Replace

Apr-18-2012 By envirocbr

I recently got a log file that had excessive spacing in the body so it was very difficult to read. Sure I could use notepad in windows or Notepad++ but I was already operating in my Linux VM and knew how easy I could edit the file. Thus I have included the steps here for you to visualize: Read the rest of this entry »

Configure Superscope

Mar-27-2012 By envirocbr

While I never recommend the use of Superscopes as they are usually relevant to a bad network design. I know that sometimes networks are inherited and not the fault of the person having to perform this action;thus, I am going to provide a lean set of steps to configure this assuming you know your way around Microsoft DHCP server and have a few requirements met: Read the rest of this entry »

The Barracuda Spam and Virus Firewall will encrypt emails sent to users and is useful for a lot of organizations that demand the utmost privacy to their clients. However, there may be some confusion on the setup and where to go. I’ll explain briefly where to look and you can go from there… Read the rest of this entry »

HP UDP-HELPER and DHCP

Mar-15-2012 By envirocbr

In the Cisco world we use ip helper-address and this is sufficient to get DHCP relayed to the server for hosts in a different VLAN to get a DHCP address from a server on a different subnet. However, on the HP A series (3Com) platform this is not so obvious and most will find that UDP-HELPER does not forward DHCP requests and you could find yourself wondering how to get this working if UDP-HELPER does not work. The answer is configuring a DHCP-RELAY agent under the interface and setting up the DHCP server-group. I will show you below… Read the rest of this entry »

GUI Vs CLI

Mar-13-2012 By envirocbr

So there is the long standing debate of GUI Vs CLI in both the server and Networking world. There are quite a few angles to argue and I know that in this one single post I am not going to cover 100% of them and I am going to keep emotion out of this and stick to the facts and try to do a “Qualitative” review of the two Read the rest of this entry »

Netscreen track-ip

When setting up interface track-ip you need to follow a few rules and I will outline them below: Read the rest of this entry »

This is supposed to “speed up” wireless client access to a network. What this seems to cause is a massive headache for network and system administrators. Windows clients can cache the information from an associated SSID so when they rejoin that network they simply send the equivalent of what a wired station would send before the lease ends to renew it rather than waiting for it to expire. Microsoft wants you to believe this “saves time” but in reality just how fast is the DORA process for DHCP? Typically so fast most people don’t care. While this “feature” may work well with Server 2008 R2 DHCP server it has shown to cause issues with other RFC compliant DHCP servers. Here is how you turn off Windows DHCP Network Hints:

Legal issues for accessing networks

Feb-5-2012 By envirocbr

So those who know me know that I LOVE studying law and someday (when networking gets boring) I will go to law school. However, until now I am here doing this so let’s study a little on the importance of “The Banner”
